About Us

The ADHD Foundation of Trinidad & Tobago was created to provide a safe space for people with ADHD and those who are affected by it. We are about building a community where our members feel safe and proud to express ourselves, and where our abilities and achievements will be recognized and appreciated.

We believe that we are a unique and diverse group of people who have unique and diverse needs. We intend to provide the support and services required to help our children and young adults with ADHD. Helping them learn to reach their full potential through education, sensitization and activities for themselves, their families and their educators.  The goal is to provide knowledge, tools and support to create a better quality life for individuals with ADHD, their family and the society.

We aim to network with other organizations and support groups towards the shared vision of helping persons with ADHD and them to enjoy a quality of life that is possible to achieve while living with ADHD.

We believe that a culture of sharing and working together will reduce the social stigmas and negative attitudes associated with ADHD, and will empower individuals to celebrate their differences and achieve a sense of belonging in the general community.

Services

Parent Support

The aim of the Foundation’s parent training programmes is to improve parents’ knowledge of ADHD and their management of ADHD behaviours in their children. The goal is to provide parents with strategies for controlling the symptoms of ADHD, communicating more effectively with their children, better self-management, and assisting their children in executing their ADHD management plan.

Teacher/Educator Training

Seminars and workshops will be conducted to train teachers/educators in the identification of ADHD/ADD behaviours with the intention of early screening, provide them with classroom strategies for managing students’ performance and behaviour, and supporting parents in managing children with ADHD. The aim also is to assist schools to promote an ADHD-friendly environment in which students with ADHD can avail themselves of opportunities to succeed. The organization’s goal is to minimize the chances of exclusion of children with ADHD/ADD from school.

Children Educational Seminars

These seminars will educate children about ADHD and provide them with tools for better self-management.

 Internet Support

The Foundation will work to provide families and concerned individuals with information and up-to-date research about ADHD through its website and social media communities such as Facebook and twitter. Our goal is to make available at the individual’s convenience, best practices, up to date information and research, and build an online community support group by which members will share concerns, ideas and experiences and help foster personal responsibility for positive growth and development.

Research

The Foundation has already embarked on research that will provide us with scientifically grounded information to guide our interventions so that they will be appropriate and effective.

Advocacy

A critical role of the Foundation is to advocate for policies, services and resources that would improve the quality of life for persons with ADHD/ADD.

Clinical services

In the long-term, the Foundation aims to provide counselling/therapy and testing for persons with ADHD/ADD at subsidized costs.
